About Me

bddcafeMY NAME IS BEN, AND I AM A FOLLOWER OF JESUS.

I am also a broken sinner — redeemed, forgiven, and restored by the cross of Jesus.  He is my King, Lord, Leader, and friend.

I am an adopted child of God, created in the image of my daddy.

God has been pursuing me since before I was born; I said YES to him when I was 17 years old.

I love God more than anything. I love His church.  And I believe that the local church is really the hope of the world.

I also believe that the “unexamined life is not worth living” — so hence my committment to “faith autopsy”.

Soren Kierkegaard, one of my favorite Christian writers, thinkers and theologians, said that “all faith is autopsy” — drawing from the idea that autopsy (from the Greek) means to really look at, to really see.

Since I am sharing some of what I believe here, I would also say that I believe “autopsy” happens best through reflection on our stories lived out in community — and how our stories intersect and align with God’s story.

My story is still being written.  So is yours.

We are at best co-authors with God.

But indeed, we are co-authors.

For what it is worth, I am also a chef, pastor, speaker and consultant.

I’m reading through Jeff Chu’s book, and found you and your site in his chapter, “The Ministry is the Closet.” I’m glad to have found you on-line, and I look forward to learning from your life. God bless.

Hi Ben! I too read about you in Jeff Chu’s book. Very amazing story. Your conversion experience on the beach reminds me of the story of Harvard B School professor Roy Shoeman’s similar experience on Cape Cod leading him to become Roman Catholic. Are you familiar with his website:

Also I wonder if you are familiar with the book God vs Gay by a Jewish rabbi?

I dont have any answers for you except to say please continue resolutely forward. As a fellow Jewish believer in Jesus, I am familiar with the sacrifices you have made. I have children and grandchildren in Israel (where I became a believer) who refuse all contact with me. It is painful, but I also pray for them and believe God is firmly in control. I also have struggled with sexuality issues different from yours, and I know it is devastating.

When I attended college my highest correlation in a vocational aptitude test was to be a Roman Catholic priest! But the counselor skipped over that result knowing that I was Jewish.

Shalom and may God strengthen and bless you in every way.

I find this Catholic chant very inspiring:

Alos would like to recommend to you two books recommended to me by a friend:

The Disappearance of the Universe: Straight Talk about Illusions, Past Lives, Religion, Sex, Politics, and the… by Gary R. Renard (Nov 2004)

A Course In Miracles by Foundation For Inner Peace (May 21, 2008)

These claim to present the authentic teachings of Jesus stripped of various pernicious church doctrines meant to divide and conquer people.

You will find them very encouraging. Start with the first book.

    In Love of Christ,
    Michael Korn

PS I would also propose as a thesis that the Protestant world is partly responsible for the Gay movement in rejecting the notion of Catholic religious orders, which provided sacred communities for same sex people who did not wish to marry. Without this option, Protestants who are not attracted to the opposite sex have no recourse to assuage their loneliness but to enter into a same sex liaisons.
