What Would You Do?

02 Jul

This week, a good friend, who is a Christian and involved in her church, and also a bisexual woman married to a wonderful woman, sent me this:

“Dear Ben, We are seeking wise counsel — We have some friends, n

ot super close, but close enough that we’ve invited them for dinner and we went to their wedding. He’s done work at our house, as he’s a contractor. She posted this and we aren’t sure how to feel about it. On one hand, there are positive parts and of course we understand that it is their right to feel this way, but somehow, it still feels kind of hostile. Can we maintain a relationship with them — we just aren’t sure, but we know that Christ calls us to love. Thoughts?”

Here is meme she was referring to:

What advice would you give?

Just my two cents but they are technically judging, condemning them to hell, and also bullying them by posting this meme.

I can technically get behind the argument of these meme. However, method is quite significant, and the form and wording of this meme, while technically fair and understanding, is rather brusque and alienating. Realistically, I wouldn’t have this conversation with a person until far into our relationship, and I would have it in person over food, not impersonally broadcasted via meme.

If you don’t agree with homosexuality, then don’t be attracted to the same sex.

Why is it that preachers, saintly Christians all want to tell us how they are against homosexuality? There are two types of people who do that.

    1. Pious Christians who would much rather see gays as the devil and preach and fundraise off of them…

    2. Closet cases…

Both are sad representatives of Christianity.

If homosexuality disgusts you, then don’t be a homosexual. Lots of gays feel the same eay about you, straights.
