Lent Additions

17 Feb

Today marks the beginning of the Season of Lent — a time of prayerful reflection where we journey (metaphorically) with Jesus on his road to Jerusalem and through the passion. We mark the beginning of Lent with Ash Wednesday – a stark reminder of our broken humanity.

Often during Lent people focus on giving something up (like chocolate or caffeine or sweets or whatever). That is all well and good, but I wonder what it would look like if we added something during Lent, instead of took something away. What if we focused on creating good around us rather than abstaining from things?

Just a thought as we star this Lenten journey…

What do you do for Lent?

Andrew… really like that 3-pronged approach.

The journey as metaphor… that is I think one of the fundamental differences between how protestants view these things as compared to Orthodox and Catholic. I am both intrigued and attracted to the Orthodox/Catholic spirituality at times… and learn much from it… but at the end of the day am still a reformed, Protestant evangelical… sorry :-)

BD
